LG’s New Gram Laptops Are Super-Light and Chock-Full of AI

LG’s super-light laptops are stepping into the AI era. The company has announced a new Gram laptop lineup for 2025, featuring four computers ranging in size from 15.6 to 17 inches. Despite being on the large side, these laptops are true to their name and weigh less than you’d probably expect. They also have the latest Intel chips with a sprinkling of AI, unsurprising for a laptop in 2025.

LG’s Gram lineup has been around for about a decade, offering powerful laptops with lower weight than the competition. The new LG Gram lineup launching at CES next week features two variants of the flagship Gram Pro, a Gram Pro 2-in-1 convertible, and an entry-level Gram Book.

The Gram Pro models are designed for different uses. The 16-inch model comes with a Lunar Lake Core Ultra, giving it access to Microsoft Copilot+ features. The 17-inch version has an Arrow Lake Intel chip, which is generally faster but lacks the high AI throughput of Lunar Lake. This more powerful chip is paired with a discrete Nvidia RTX 4050 GPU, making the 17-inch model a capable gaming machine with a hefty 90Wh battery. Despite the impressive hardware, the larger Gram Pro only weighs 3.26 pounds. The 16-incher is only 2.73 pounds.

All four Gram laptops come with LCD displays, but only the 16-inch 2-in-1 has an OLED option. It comes with a wirelessly chargeable stylus. LG says this laptop, like its morphing gaming monitor, has already been awarded a CES 2025 Innovation Award. This machine will have the same Arrow Lake processor options as the larger Pro, but there’s no discrete GPU. It does manage to cram in the same 77Wh battery as the 16-inch non-convertible model.

The LG Gram Book is an outlier. It will only come with a slower Core i5 processor from the old Raptor Lake family. It’s paired with 8 or 16GB of DDR4 RAM, a step down from the 32GB of DDR5 in the other Gram machines. This laptop also steps down in the display department with a 15.6-inch 1080p LCD and a meager 51Wh battery.

These laptops will come with access to cloud-based AI services powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o. When connected to the internet, you’ll be able to generate text with this advanced AI model, but it’s only free for the first year. There’s also an on-device AI based on LG’s EXAONE LLM, powering several offline AI features. For example, LG says the new AI has a feature called Time Travel, which lets you revisit documents, websites, and videos you recently viewed.

It sounds a lot like Microsoft Recall, which has been a privacy headache even without a public release. LG hasn’t elaborated on exactly how this feature will work. Hopefully it’s cognizant of the privacy implications.

LG’s Gram laptops tend to be on the expensive side, and we have no doubt that will be true for the refreshed models. However, LG hasn’t announced pricing for any of them yet, but the full spec sheets are available. We hope to hear more as the machines roll out in various markets.
